I believe this one started life at jersey airport there was a sister ship to it which was at shuttleworth collection but recently sold .Probably this is only a 6x4 version

This is one of 4 identical vehicles provided to Jersey Airport by Carmichaels. This one is at Caernarfon, one is in the Transport Museum on Jersey, one is in Holland and one was at Coventry Airport but recently sold on ebay minus all its firefighting gear. The 'lightweight' rear body was supposedly to allow for more water in the tank, but I haven't had this confirmed by anyone actually measuring the capacity.

I seen this old girl again Saturday just she is 6x6.

Darren I went to see the old girl on Saturday she looks just the same as last time complete with a prop shaft to the rear axle, 6X6 mate.

The selectable 6x6 conversion was added a few years ago by Alan Hughes, who also did the restoration work on the vehicle. Alan is a retired North Wales firefighter who now runs his own fire cover business as well as working at the Airfield.

sorry i thought it was 6x4 i crewed the vehicle that is now in holland when i was a firefighter at the shuttleworth collection/airfield fire service she was a good truck but the pto was a bit of a pain to engage the space on the back i believe used to carry a bcf unit when it was on the run at jersey

Hi Darren. You are correct. This one also had a BCF unit when first OtR at Caernarfon. There is an excellent picture of it foaming a training fire on the Six Appeal Wheel Group site where the is an album dedicated to these Jersey machines. The BCF was removed in 'favour' of the extinguishers by the airport management I believe.

many thanks for the info i will have a look at the site .The vehicle in holland when it was sold from jersey it went cranfield before being bought by a private owner anything i can tell you about the one in holland please ask

Darren. Yes please. There has boon some discussion as to whether the Holland/Shuttleworth/Cranfield machine actually was from Jersey, because of the short extension over the back of the cab. Can you say where and when this was fitted or otherwise confirm it as a definite Jersey machine? I know a number of people are anxiously awaiting an answer on this.

hi the machine was from jersey i believe the short extension at the back of the cab is a locker that i beleive was added at cranfield because there is no lockers on it the except in the top of the cab.it was there when it was in private hands after cranfield. thanks john i will join see you there on the six wheeels appeal

the one that was j 49599 was later reregistered q555 gea.

Hello everyone, Am pleased to say that the SixAppealWheel Group now owns the Ex Jersey/Caernarfon Commando. Went to collect it today from Craddocks after they shipped it back from Norway. It had suffered a little bit, windscreen smashed and one side window bu vandals in Norway. But an interesting variation on the Commando chassis.

No Justin, a friend and member of the group bought 3 6x4's and kindly let us have this one for the same price he gave for it for preservation.Not sure if they have any more fire appliance types they brought back?
