can anyone advise me as to whether any of this type of appliance served north of the border either with the NFS or local authority brigades post-war?. am currently building a small model of this appliance and would like to depict it as a scottish machine if possible.
Hi Steve perth used one of these TL,s before they got there 1959 AEC/mercury merryweather TL. Ive seen photos of it in action at perth's museum.I managed to get a photo of perths old fire station in the 1930's and 2 or 3 prints of older appliances from the museum.
Stevie,South Western Area Fire Brigade in Scotland operated post-war the Austin K4 TL reg-GXN 229. I think this could well have been operated out of Dumfries Fire Station?.Was Dumfries at one time part of the South Western Area Fire Brigade????.

Hi Pete, yeh Dumfries would have been under the South Western umbrella. Thanks guys for the info, now look forward to building it in scottish colours so to speak.
Bristol Bob - have you any other photo's of this engine or the other that served in Somerset at around the same time GXN 205 as my family own 205 and would love to see a photo of her in service? We have had her for 35 years and only recently found a picture of her in service but it only shows the backend. The picture you have here is excellent as it shows a lot of detail.
Stevie Murray,I note from your last comment that you'll be modelling your Austin K4 TL in Scottish colours so to speak.I should just like to point out that there's just a choice of two colours:- Grey being NFS,or red being post-war,no tartan fancy stuff please, don't over do it mate.
