I remember EJV 955 being delivered new to Grimsby in 1954- cost £8, 000. It ran alongside Dennis F12 pump escape DEE 109 at Chelmsford Avenue, Grimsby until both were transferred to the new Peake's Lane HQ in 1964. Anyone know what happened to DEE 109? I have a cutting from the local paper when this was delivered new to Grimsby in 1952, stating that the F12 cost £4000 (including the Bayley wheeled escape)! What price a CARP?!
Yes Andy there was a station in Corporation Rd near its junction with Alexandra Rd. I believe it was a war-time construction to cover the docks and timber yards etc. I have vague memories of a grey Fordson Heavy Unit and a grey Leyland Beaver/Merryweather TLP - possibly GXA 90. Also a Fordson escape carrier - GUC 624. Regarding JJV 999F, I saw this appliance when new and have photos. I believe it went to Bridlington soon after Humberside was formed.
JJV 999F was new to Grimsby County Borough Fire Brigade in 1968 and was stationed at Peakes Lane,Grimsby. When the Humberside Fire Brigade was formed in 1974, this station became C1 Grimsby and the appliance remained there until 1977.It was in 1977 its beleaved that the appliance was then relocated to Station A4 New Walkergate-Beverley, Humberside Fire Brigade finally going out of service in 1983.
Thanks chaps. yes I have the PHP at Beverley too. I was informed many years ago that Merryweather/Merryweather 100' TL JV 3950 had secumbed to enemy action at Immingham docks and GXA 95 was allocated there as replacement. Thanks Barrie for clearing that one up too.
Regarding JJV 999F -although I photographed it soon after delivery I did not ascertain what the power unit was or the water tank capacity. Can you help me?
Royce, only information on JJV999F that I know is that the appliance dates from 1968 and that it was a Dennis F38/Dennis/SS50(SS-Simon Snorkel 50')PHP. Having looked through a Catalogue from Dennis Fire Division (1972/73) which mensions the'F' Series,it states that the Snorkel had twin boom hydraulically elevating 50ft (15.20m) platform complete with 360*turntable, monitor and jacking bases. The appliance carried 250 gallons (1136.50 litres) water. An optional tank of 100 gallons (454.6 litres) foam compound tank with built-in foam proportioning system could be also fitted if required. Dennis used two types of Power Units on the Dennis'F'Series. The Rolls Royce B.81 SV 398 (6.5 litres), and the Perkins V8.510 510.7(8.36 litres). There is alot more detailed information, but to much to post.Want more?, then contact me and I will forward info onto you.Pete.
Pete - Very many thanks for your helpful comments re PJV 999F. Did you ever see her - or am I being impertinent? The machine's pump was of the dismountable type and I believe two hose reels were fitted. An e-mail from you would be most welcome -do you have a particular in the Grimsby brigade?
I take it Royce, that Hartwell Ford now occupy the site of the former Fire Station? Peakes Lane and peakes Parkway now occupies the old Grimsby-Louth railway line. When did it close?
One more point about JJV 999F: When it first came - though I'm not sure for how long - it was also designated as the brigade Salvage Tender !!!

Andy- Couldn'say whats there now as I havent lived in GY for many years - but the fire station was a war time edifice, similar in construction to Chelmsford Ave and on the tram station side of Corporation Rd, a little to the East of its junction with Alexander Rd. The East Lincs rail route from GY to London via Peterborough was closed to passenger traffic in October 1970 but remained open to freight as far Louth as until December 1980.
