Fire Engines Photos

I served on these in Brisbane in the 60s. They were a great machine.

Now, that has to be a real combination of styles - a big USA Mack Pumper, complete with Bull-Dog radiator mascot; and carrying a wooden Wheeled Escape from The Old Country, light 'buggy-wheels' and all...

Yes, these vehicles were brought from US as cab chassis.The bodies were made in Brisbane by Enogerra body works. The pumps wre taken from Dennis fire engines from UK which these machines replaced in the late 50s.The ladders were also taken from the same vehicles which also were from the UK.As there were 6 of these brought to Brisbane more of these ladders were produced by the same company to UK specs

I would love a side-view photo - anyone? especially curious as to where the crew rode...the Rear-Step would have been taken up by the Escape ....

Marcel's picture 20083 shows a 1955 San Francisco Mack Engine, with cut-away doors, too.

Pat,the crew rode directly behind the driver/OIC in a back rear seat facing forwards.These Macks were used by the Brisbane Metropolitan Fire Brigade(MFB)between the years of 1959-1967 then possible going to volunteer stations and actually just out of interest,wheeled escapes were used in Brisbane(MFB)right up until 1983.

Pat. As in photo this vehicle is fitted with siren.Before this they were fitted with hand bell. This was operated by firie seated in the front seat These were changed to eletric bell , until sirens were fitted. They carried a crew of 6. 4 seated in rear, driver and OIC in front plus bell operator until changed. The ladder was operated by a crew of 3. I don,t know if I have side view photo,will check sometime

These Macks were used well into the 1980sin Brisbane. I drove them in the 1970s , great to drive , very sure footed and fast when wound up.The ladders were Bayley 15.2 metre sliding carriage wheeled escape.Great ladders and very stable and fast to erect .
