Lothian and Borders had beacons like this on an appliance at McDonald Road many years ago, and each time it sent a radio message when the lights were flashing they caused some slight electronic noise to be heard when they were transmitting the message to control.

Staffordshire's appliances had these "bowl" strobes on their appliances for many years. And yes they did produce a high pitched ping over the radio. But I think all strobes did this, didn't they? Not just this particular shape.
