Its quite nice to see this type of appliance still active. Even us in Brunei had stopped a fleet of the 1980s Dennis DF and Dennis RS pump hydraulic platform fitted with Simon Snorkel SPCA snorkel. Not sure why they stop the usage of these nice appliance.
This appliance is no longer in service, was replaced in October 2009 with a scania P series scania HP, apparently only 5 days after being withdrawn was sold at auction to private bidder
1- The 16 meter platform was not enough to have a really useful operating range, unless the truck was very carefully positioned in exactly the right place - which was usually impossible! So its effectiveness was very limited to a very few specific situations.
2- In addition the design resulted in a bulky and much heavier truck, often limiting the water tank to still get within the design weight.
3- It also sacrificed some locker space and accommodations for ground ladders - all of which affected its ability to function in its dual pump water tender role.
As they say in my native Yorkshire, "it was neither nowt nor summat", and no British fire service which bought them ever replaced any of them with another. Many were sold off after only a few years service, and too may of these discards seem to have ended up in Ireland...
