The idea of a single rear passenger door on crew cab light truck chassis has been around for decades and was common on Opel, Ford, VW and Benz brands emanating from Germany especially.

It saves a few Euros, but does not speed up ingress or egress on an emergency vehicle like this!

Benz has also introduced a 513 Sprinter to increase payload and come closer to the discontinued Vario, which is now replaced in their product line by a Mitsubishi Fuso.
