This truck is actually a Dennis Dagger and is a completely different model from the Sabre. Very nice pic though

So where are the differents of Dagger & Rapier?

A Rapier has a space frame chassis where as the Dagger has a conventional chassis. I believe the engine in the Rapier is a larger engine and the truck is a lot higher spec than the dagger.

This Dennis Dagger is one of two in the county of West Sussex, the other being at Turners Hill fire staion. Just thought you would like to know. Good picture by the way.

Danny, thanks for the compliments on photo, and yes I am fully aware that West
Sussex only have the 2 Dennis(Daggers)on there fleet.I thought this was a
Rapier-Dagger, I didn't realise it was a follow up from the Rapier and was
actually a totally different make of appliance all together-my mistake.

The dagger has never really taken off as a popular appliance with most brigades, they only seem to be used in station's where space is limited as they have a smaller over all size then both sabre's and rapiers. I'm with the essex frs and we have two but only at small retained stations. I have never used one, if anyone knows if there is a problem with them I would like to know.

The Dagger has a lower power output engine compared with the Sabre and the cost savings between the two were not as great as originally expected. Many Brigades thought that if they paid that little bit extra they were receiving a lot more more machine in a full Sabre, hence the lack of favour with the Dagger.

...but it was a good name, Dennis Rapier, Dennis Sabre, Dennis Dagger, far beter than 'We drive a FL6'!

(and I supposes we must not forget the Dennis bus series of names, Dart, Javelin, Trident)

This pump has now been moved to Petworth. The reason being is that Shoreham by Sea now has got a 08 Scania as their First Away, meaning that the station's previous First Away,Dennis Sabre, has now been moved to Second Away. Hence the reason why the Dennis Dagger no longer serves at Shoreham by Sea.

Hi Danny

Shorehams new Scania is actually a 58 reg and the Sabre isn't at Shoreham either that has gone to Storrington the retained truck at Shoreham is now an 04 reg Scania which used to be based at Bognor. Hope this helps.

Thanks Matt for the info. The reason why I said the Sabre was still at Shoreham was because when I visited the station at the end of August it still had the Sabre, but of course they must of changed it after I visited.

Yeh they only changed it a few weeks ago. There are a few changes happening at the moment Keymer are now running J75 GRV as their M reg rapier is now being returned to the lease company who own them.

Turners Hill has got wailers now instead of two tone. And I think its the only dagger and 02 reg to have wailers. Horsham had the appliance back in 2003/04 with two tone. Not sure why they changed the siren when Turners Hill received it.

They have always had both two tone & wailers on these daggers. The 02reg sabres also had wailers.

As Rich said all the 02s (Sabres & Daggers) had both wailers and TwoTone horns. The reason being these where the 1st appliances in West Sussex with wailers and the two tones got put on incase the wailers ever failed. It is nice having the use of both.
