The first mk10 was deliverd to RAF Wittering in 1982.The vehicle was designed as a primary 2 crash vehicle.A 600 gal premix afff water tank was provided.The vehicle was to replace the Bedford MK8.Later vershions had seperate water/foam tanks and hose reels so they could be used for domestic fire fighting.

Hi Dave, I left before the Mk 10 but thought the pre mix tank a good idea for airfield use, I remember being envious of the USAF and their ability to knock down quickly using AFFF and all we could offer was 200 gals. on the Tacr 2.

Only the body work was Carmichael thought the vehicle is actually a Scammell, though under powered so later models was sup'ed up by uni~power, but scammell made the 4x4 model mk10 and 6x6 model mk11

Remember Ray Charlton bringing this to Cottesmore for our evaluation input and it got bogged in on our cross country course, was not impressed with the single tank, as did not suit the purpose that the MOD staff planned for it's use. Again no fire-fighter in put on design selection as per norm!!!
