Fire Engines Photos

It looks very complete and at £3000 rather a bargain! Pity about the wrong headlights.

i have known this engine from the 80's it was mint and owened by the Passey family who were very large in the fire engine scene during that time
they were buyers and sellers of such machines and my machine had passed through their hands
as far as i am aware the headlights are correct to this vehicle as i have seen another Lancet with this array

I did my TL training on this vehicle, a 100ft Merryweather Mechanical, in the late 1960's. It belonged to the Birmingham Fire & Ambulance Service training school at the HQ and Stn A1 in Corporation Street, Birmingham. It's in one of my pics somewhere but only the rear end together with some Bedford Pumps at training in the yard. Sad to see the old girl all run down. I'm pretty sure she was still with Brum when I transferred out in 1972.

I remember part of the theory test asked by station officer joe beech
Before " water on " what must be shown, the answer was "a clean pair of heels "

Sorry to disagree but a 'clean pair of heels' were to be shown before extending the ladder along with the left arm of the fireman at the head of the ladder being outstretched to indicate to the operator that he was clipped on and ready !

Headlights may be correct as 5" were standard for a large part of WWII.

Passey was a scrapyard in Benson Oxf. but also collected vehicles.

This was the same chassis used by John Morris for the prewar Morris Magirus 27 metre ladder EHN118 at Darlington. It had much larger headlights, possibly because it dated from 1938?
