The reason for these appliances being shifted out of London relates to the introduction of the Low Emission Zone across the city and the need for heavy vehicles (including fire appliances) operating within the LEZ to meet Euro 4 Emission standards or pay a fine of 200 pounds a day. We know these things in New Zealand !!
the other reason is that the same Private Finance Inititive (PFI) contractor is involved in London and Lincolnshire - called AssettCo. The PFI means the London Fire brigade does not own its fleet and indeed cannot stop Assettco moving appliances to Lincolnshire. All London's front line appliances are now Ategos, but they still need reserve appliances which are Volvo's. I think I am right in saying the younger Volvos have gone to Lincs but perhaps somebody can confirm this. Assettco's new pump acquisitions in Lincs are MAN Zieglers.
Well Peter alot of the mark 1 ategos are being used as reserve's now. i think that all the old J, K, L and M reg volvos are being sold off now, because the LFB are used the 52, 03 and some 53 appliances as reserves!!
At the moment half of Lincolnshire fleet (about 25) are Ex-London Volvos and other half are brand new MAN Zieglers. Apparently They gonna buy another lot of brand new ones in 5 years.

The volvo dpls mentioned above that are still in the LFB fleet are not owned by asset co, they are still owned by the LFB. Most of the other vehicles ARE owned by assetco
