1939 Dennis ' Light Four/New World 'Fire Engine.

This is a 1939 Dennis Light Four/New World bodywork fire engine (reg BPM 212) new to Hurstpierpoint Parish Fire Brigade and then Cuckfield Rural Council Brigade before emalgamation in 1948 to the East Sussex Fire Brigade. This appliance saw service well into the late 1950's before going out of service and then finally put into presevation, and is in actual fact one of three such Dennis Light Four's from East Sussex still in presevation today that I know of.The others being BPM 213 which was based at Turners Hill, and the other,BPN 698 being based at Newhaven (I have photo's) Fire Station.

A nice machine.

I think "Sedan Body" might describe it, on this side of the Atlantic.

I take it that "New World" meant the crew's seats were inside the body, versus the older way of having them perched on the outside of the engine ?

Craig, the appliance is still owned by the Horsham Veteran Fire Engine Preservation Group in West Sussex. It attends many fuctions throughout the summer period including'Open Days'at stations, Fire Shows and Rallies.
Here are some dates worth noting if your able to attend to hopefully see the appliance:-Shoreham Open Day-18th June, Amberley Fire Show-25/26 June, Littlehampton Open Day-9th July, Worthing Open Day-30 July.
This photograph was taken when the appliance was in attendence at Horsham Fire Station where it still normally attends each year. She's also normally seen at the Open Days at Bognor Regis, Haywards Heath, Crawley, and of course her old station at Hurstpierpoint.

Is there any contact details for the group please

What a blast from the past, seeing that picture! My late father was a fireman, and then Sub-officer at Station 5 , Hurstpierpoint, in the 50s and early 60s, and I have vivid childhood memories of being allowed to clamber over the appliance while my dad made his nightly trip to the station, reporting in to HQ at Haywards Heath. The smell of polish was overwhelming, and I reckon that machine was truly loved. So good to see it still in good order- Dad would have been proud!

Craig, if you go to picture 7825 you'll see a comment was added to another picture of mine by John Commins.John is a member of the Horsham Veteran Fire Engine Preservation Group.I don't think the group actually have an email address, but John is contactable by just clicking on his high-lighted name for his email address.
If you do have any problems, I'll be seeing John on several occasions over the next few months so I'll speak to him-OK.Pete.
