Late 2007 Dennis Sabre Durham County Fire Brigade

This is a late 2007 Dennis Sabre belonging to Durham County Fire Brigade. It was on show at at 'Locomotion' the new railway museum at Shildon in County Durham, in the Norh East of England. Note how spare BA cylinders are carried in pods in the space which is normally wasted round the rear wheel arch.

For A Great Idea Gone Trans-Atlantic: have a dekko at Picture # 11148.

Monroe County, Georgia, E-One Pumper has the same stowage for BA Bottles, over the rear wheel arch.

( I didn't see it - it was Barry that pointed it out ! )

Good looking piece of kit and a true fire engine made for the job, not a convertion from a bin waggon!

Good idea re the spare BA sets, what body work is this?

hi we have a 2004 dennis sabre on our station with john dennis body work and we had ba bottle stowage around the back wheel arches back then so its not a new idea i think jdc started it first so i can see looking at all other uk makers ( emergency one/ tvac/ saxon etc ) but like most things they cotten on

The bodywork on this is by TVAC.

are durham still buying dennis? hope so its good to see a decent appliance and not a converted lorry, i have 26 years in and we have gone down the scania road and its a retrograde step as far as the firefighter is concerned but no doubt they are cheaper, the moan from the transport manager was spares availability which i find hard to believe as they dont need as many and most can be had from factors, as for the pump etc spares for these are no different no matter the chassis, perhaps the scania branded jacket had some factor on his allegiance or the jolly to angloco for the weekend, of course not !!

Calvin: As Pat pointed out, this storage solution for spare BA cylinders has been around here in the US for many years, going back to 1980s or earlier.

Some other good ideas, like folding trays and swing-out equipment boards, power ladder racks and preconnected hose layouts are slowly being adopted in the UK after being proven for decades in other countries...
