This 'pump and hose car' #1318 is an Ahrens-Fox model M-X-2, with a 750 gpm piston pump.
Fox #1318 was built already in 1927, as part of an 12-31-1926 order placed by Rotterdam FD for 7 Foxes model M-X-2. On August 5th, 1927, Rotterdam FD changed its order to 7 Foxes model N-S-2. These became Foxes #3313-#3319.
Thereafter Ahrens-Fox sold #1318 (with 'sister' #1319) to Detroit FD in 1931.

For those of us from Britain and the Commonwealth; intriguing to see the Right Hand Drive.
Then, there is the Buckeye Roto Ray red-lights just visible above the wind-screen.
And that rudimentary wind-screen, for those cold winters on The Great Lakes.
But, then, again - it doesn't upset the lines of a truly classic fire apparatus.

One of the ultimate classic fire engines of all time!

Many of these had amazingly long service lives - and several are in preservation and still fully functional to this day.

Personally, I am not thrilled by the added on windshield, but I have spent enough time in Detroit to fully understand why it is there!

I owned this and had it professionally restored. I got ill and had to sell it several years ago

Engine 34 had a Fox in service as late as 1959. I believe this was the last "Fox" in service in Detroit. 28 yrs is a impressive amount of time to be in service.
