Neil, how does this thing work, bottom first then top sections, I'm a bit at sea here mate? Look, I don't like coloured fire engines, apart from (drab grey-apparently), but, , , , this is sort of 'nice'

Yes, Pavel, I got to wondering as well. We, in Canada, and especially in Ontario, are not noted for "far-out" colours in our fire engines. But, where the Aerial came from, Youngwood Hose Company No. 1, of Pennsylvania, USofA - all their units are that blue colour - ref. InterNet www.youngwood.org/newfd1/index.htm - Niagara Falls FD is perhaps waiting on the budget for a paint job. Alas, I cannot figure out the aerial ladder extension, either.

Old pictures I have show the Niagara Falls FD as having orange/yellow apparatus
so I was very surprised to see this Sutphen midmount 75' aerial in blue livery.
The apparatus looks very nice, but I prefere the orange/yellow livery.

But, has anyone got a picture, or a web-site, on how the Sutphen Mid-Mount Aerial extends out?

shows their models of Sutphens.Also click on Appararus and this brings up the

at ladder truck like this one would look good in surrey's colours they had one similar too this one years ago but i don't know or maybe they sold it to another fire station out of province. jan 04 09

From the 'Site:

Taking the "Niagara Falls Fire Dept." sign as horizontal mid-point; below it, are the ladder box-sections that telescope out in normal fashion.

Above it, are the side hand-rails, that travel with each box-section.

It's worth down-loading, in the PDF format; and magnifying the drawings. This truck is available as a "Quint", read ARP/CARP; and we ordinary souls can see the necessary dimensions for a successful ARP/CARP. Simply too wide and too long, (not to mention the overhang) for the British roads and lanes - but, then, "this is preaching to the choir".....the troops know this very well, but not Upper Management (>:]

Across our Kennebacasis (Mic-Mac tribe name) River; the joint Fire Dept. that serves Rothesay (Scottish tribe name) and Quispamsis (Mic-Mac tribe name) is getting their very first arial - it will be a Quint (ARP/CARP) and it will be a Sutphen.

C.H.Sutphen's firm, founded 1890, and run by the 4th generation of the family, still build their own chassis'.

I very much doubt whether there is a colour in existence that can't be found in Pennsylvania - that particular state is known for a miscellany of liveries that is second to none.

I must hunt up the Pennsylvania liveries.....'Slime' Green is bad enough; let's hope there are no 'Putrid' Purples, or 'Shocking' Pink !
