Similar Pierce tiller to those you will find all over Los Angeles, where this long-established configuration is still universal.

Many departments have switched to straight stick aerials, towers and quints, but the tiller still survives in a lot of fire service fleets!

The main reason is its remarkable maneuverability, thanks to the trailer steering axle (and the skill of the tillerman).

Funnily enough, most rigid frame aerials here have tandem rear axles, but none seem to have trailing steering axles - which are now pretty much the norm in Europe...
