1961 Bedford TK/HCB Water Tender Isle of Wight
1961 Bedford TK/HCB-Angus Water Tender (reg WDL 498) was new to the Isle of Wight Fire Brigade and was located at Ryde Fire Station before going out of service in 1978.It was then passed onto the Isle of Wight County Council for pumping flood water in Cowes on the Island until 1987,and then went into private ownership on the Isle of Wight.This photograph was taken in 1994 at the Hickstead All England Show Jumping Ground in West Sussex at 'Fire Show Spectacular 94.

i am trying to trace a bedford tk ambulance which i gave to, what i thought was the national ambulance museum in plymouth, which no longer seems to exist.
i had converted it into a mobile home, but it would have been easily restored.
do you know of any tk enthusiasts who may be able to help please?bob dow

Hello Bob, I don't think I can personnally help you I'm more into fire related topics, but I think your best bet is to actually write to The British Ambulance Preservation Society.Address:-Head Office, 21 Victoria Road, Horley, Surrey.RH6- 9BN.They might be able to tell you (reg-required )if the vehicle in question is still around and maybe attending there rallies.Hope you have some luck.Pete.

Hello, I am the fire service photographer / historian for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and with the help of this site I would like any information on the whereabouts of any ex island fire engines in particular a 1930's Leyland PE, DDL 215. I am also writing a book about the history of the Island's fire service and welcome any photos of island appliances that could be used with full creditation given. I like this all over red treatment! Too many British fire engines were unpainted, and looked like they had been made out of recycled dust bins (garbage cans).

I remember this fire engine a lot as I use to live in green street - the driver of the time was called Stan
