Hi Frank, can you tell me what kind of organisation the SMART is ?

Smart is special malaysian assistance rescue team, the malaysian version of the singaporean dart. The team exist of fire-fighters and military personnel, I believe some police specialists aswell.

Smart is the special malaysian rescue team - a federal national rescue squad dedicated to support all national and international disasters such as tsunamis, fallen buildings, earthquakes etc. They are manned by volunteers from the fire & rescue service & the police force. They are equipped with vehicles that can be moved by hercules aircraft to any location around malaysia or the world.

Exactly, SMART is an elite Rescue team which specialized in Urban Search and Rescue Operation and prolonged fire fighting operation.They consist of personnel from fire and Rescue dept, Civil defence dept, Military and Police.They are combined together and being put under the Prime Minister Department. Their strength is about 1 company with a fleet of Specialized Rescue vehicle. Mainly they are being deploy to Disaster area where the district Emergency Response Management Team could not cater the incident and whereby a direct instruction from the Prime Minister for SMART to be deployed/ They also have their own helicopter which being used for disaster relief operation and Logistic transportation. All personnel of SMART is being loan by their origin department for three years period to serve in SMART.After the period, the personnel has to report back to their department and serve with their origin department.SMART formed up in 1993, wher Malaysia realise the need of special team for rescue after the Collapsed of Highland Tower Condominium. SMART being trained in oversea and focusing in Urban Search and Rescue Operation. They cross train with SCDF DART, Japan Disaster Relief Force and other USAR team in the world. So far SMART has proven their capabilities in handling Rescue, Relief and recovery operation in disaster whether internally or internationally.
