Peterborough V.F.B.1970 Dennis 45/Dennis WrLThis is a 1970 Dennis 45/Dennis Water Tender Ladder powered by a Rolls Royce B81 petrol engine. The appliance was in service with the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade in Cambridgeshire from December 1970 until going out of service in 1985.It then went into presevation with the Volunteer Brigade and was still in presevation when this photo was taken in the Summer of 1992 at the Southampton Fire Engine Rally at the Royal Victoria Country Park,Netley,Southampton.
The Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade was formed in 1884 by businessmen who declared that they had no faith in the Corporation Fire Brigade, and actually even today, although now being a unit with the Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service, the Peterborough Volunteer Fire Brigade is still a distinctly private brigade.
