Thornycroft(LFT)Large Fire Tender) 1957 Australia
In 1993, avid steam engine driver and Military and Fire Engine enthusiast and historian, Mr Peter Madderson of Maida Vale WA, chanced upon this significant find,and over a period of years restored it to fully operational condition.
So much so, in that he successfully tendered for local air shows and was awarded contracts where this magnificent fighting machine was once more returned to active Fire Tender Crash Duties!
Peter and his wife and family, well known in the equestrian world, have now regrettably moved to South Australia where he intends to pursue his love of steam.
TheFireman please note, sitting in behind that front grill is the sweetest sounding growler you ever heard buddy!! It packs enough power to drain the bank of batteries if you happen to hit the button when the alternator's not ticking over at several thous revs, you can just see the mother to the right of the off/side h/lamp,,,, :)

I see that growler, too bad he had to hide it behind the grill. Our old federal q2b.s would always make the headlights dim when you pegged them out. One of my old captains, the great l.d. Patterson taught me the proper way to run one. You just bumped your way up instead of flooring the footswitch and once it was running loud, you just bumped it to keep it there. I always did that and never had alternator problems because of the growler. Btw, interesting looking rig. I had to let it grow on me tho, the first thing that ran thru my mind was "butt ugly".

Pete Matten, you're in luck, , , , It is indeed Fremantle's Ford F350 Emergency Tender retired from active service around 2001. I have only one excellent photo, and will try and post tomorrow as I have to get some shut-eye buddy. Have to be up real early as measuring show horses for a big hacking event at the Perth Horse & Pony Club at day break. You know, the old fashion 'hands' (4 inches) and I need to be on the ball as one or two of these horse people are fairly crafty customers, , , ,

only have an inside station shot of Perths, and a long shot of Fremantle fire
station showing all appliances and wondered if you had a better picture of this
very nice looking emergency tender.Thanks Pete.
