Pete! Whoa there big feller, the Missippian (Mr. Hurt) meant no harm. That's a tradition in the States, when somebody visits MY firehall, they get it outside AND in good light. It just so happened there was nobody around that day, probably out training with the ladder truck.

Where I live, the entire county uses a single point dispatch system that all fire and EMS systems in the county use. A unit is dispatched as follows, Engine 51, Rescue 43, Quint 72, Truck 132 defined as the type of unit in the name, the first 1 or 2 digits identify the department, and the last digit identifies the station the unit is assigned to in that district or department.

If this department is using the same system, then this unit is Engine 1, from station 1, located in the District/Department that was assigned as #1. Hence Engine 11.
