Underpowered and slow! My Dad drove one of these and he said they used to turn off the sirens as it was embarrassing to get passed by civilian traffic so often!

In 1968 the Ford D600 SVO chassis had already been sold to British fire brigades for around two years. It was specially engineered for fire service use - and in full compliance with all UK Home Office JDCC requirements, including speed and acceleration parameters.

There was no reason - other than cost - to build an appliance like this on a D200. It was not designed to handle the weight, as it was really only designed as a local delivery van chassis, and was indeed woefully underpowered for the job of firefighting.

The weird crew cab and very basic bodywork tend to confirm that this was a "bargain basement" effort; no surprise it did not do well, even if it did somehow last for eighteen years!
