Fireman, what do you make of all this business with the pommy aerial rescue pump at strathclyde uk. The scannia/vema/dennis(photo 1458). You guys stateside don't put up with this nonscience, do you....?? I couldn't imagine one of your aerials falling over at low speed on a round-about! come to think of it, back in my time (late '60's) riding in the rear of the 1956 dennis f21, 125 foot turntable ladder (auckland nz), the guys could drive it in their sleep on an early morning turn-out, at full speed on all sorts of road intersections and we never felt scared or apprehensive, ever....!! so what is going on??

I'll tell you what's going on, moolah, bread, dough...
money! They have stooped so low in expense, they are now paying the price. In the USA, our governing agency is the Natn'l Fire Protection Agency.(NFPA) The apparatus standards would never allow anything as "light" as they use in the UK for a ladder truck, and very seldom a pumper. We have stringent weight vs. chassis spec. that have to be met or they don't comply. In the Brits case, they got what they paid for. Plus, in the USA, we have a motto that our Grandmothers taught us..."Don't you buy no ugly truck!"
