Fire Engines Photos

I have to confess, i was always a Bedford fan, but, compared to the boring looking modern appliances, in particular the Volvo FLH, this looks far better, and if it had the perkins engine fitted, sounded far better too!

this is fitted with a perkins v8 540 engine, im looking for brake rear cylinders the engine sounds great but it hasn't been started for a while. i believe its the last of its kind in Scotland

This 1978/79 Dodge K1113/HCB Angus WrL(Water Tender Ladder)was located at
the retained station in Aberfeldy(B6)which was known as a Mobile Volunteer
Station.The Tayside Fire Brigade operated 10 of these Dodge K1113 HCB/Angus
appliances, two being converted, one as a RRU....Road Rescue Unit, and another
as a FST....Foam Salvage Unit.The call sign of this particular Dodge K1113
HCB/Angus located at the one pump station in Aberfeldy was Bravo 261.

The old erf/metz that was based at York had that engine, i used to love it when it turned out, two turns on, and that lovely sounding engine as she got away, sounds sad, but what a beautiful sounding engine.

This appliance was originally stationed at Kingsway east, dundee station 11 alongside another one with a similar T reg.This was the last of its type in Tayside.The other two wholetime stations were running at the time 1980/81 W reg Dodge 100 series cabs. This appliance originally had a chrome strip around the grill.

its sister was stationed at b10 blairgowrie and was written off after trying to squeeze past a tractor on a single track bridge whilst en route to a fafs at dunkeld house hotel, these were very fast and stable and the engine sounded awsome !!

its sister that was written off was XSP 679T callsign bravo-302 ,still have the rear number plate haha,very fast little appliances and would put the moderns to shame on handling and acceleration , reliable too ,not the quietest though but what a noise !i am now a watch manager with tayside fire and rescue with 28 years in and not long to go , i will hunt for some old photos and post as soon as
possible.

I lived 2 minutes from the Kingsway East Fire Station and remember these trucks. There were 2 of them an old TL and a white foam tender They had an unmistakable sound. Also needs to have the shiny red wheels (not white) to look the piece.

Alan, when and where was XSP679T written off? Dodge G13c/TFB ET B414WES was also written off in 1986. XSP679T I believe was at Blairgowrie at the time.

Sorry for the delay, XSP679T was written off at Essendy bridge on the Blairgowrie - Spittalfield road B947 in 1990 , 2 firefighters injured but not seriously hope this helps , Alan

Could anyone tell me if this appliance has now been restored or put on hold? My father left the brigade in 77 and used to drive its predasser an R/S plate plus the B reg Albion FST which replaced the 1958 Dennis F24 FST (Painted White)in 1976. I remember the dodges very well and used to live near the old station 2 Strathmore Avenue which closed in 1990 and now lying derelict for some time now and you new it was a fire engine with the roar of the Perkins V8 engines.

The machine is now located at 5 sisters zoo in West Calder. I't is used as an 'attraction' for visitors to the zoo as it is currently not roadworthy. Work on the brakes and a little welding would get the machine road again. Itwould be great to see this on the preservation seen as I'm not aware of any K series up here.

This appliance and it's sister held the prize for a couple of other "Last" features. They did not have a High-pressure (two-stage) pump, so lots of 45mm (1 3/4") hose running was required by the crews, especialy around the Whitfield estate (GHIK). Also, the crew cab was seated rear-facing with the BA sets in an alcove at the back. Eventually crews were banned from donning while mobile ! At the Kingsway station, this appliance was the "First Machine" (C/S Alpha 11-1) and carried the Station Officer and BA crew. XSP 679T was the "Second Machine" (C/S Alpha 11-2) and carried the Sub-Officer and the crew who did all the hose running (and salvage sheets for the property below the fire) and bin/rubbish fires.

Hi Ian are you a firefighter here or an enthusiast? My father was on White watch at the Kingsway before he left 3 moths prior to the first strike for a job offshore. He served from 1962-1977 and has driven earlier dodges up to R or S reg plus all the other types of machines and earlier pumps.

Hi Grant, a little bit of both. I served on the vehicle above (and obviously it's sister) as a sprog Ff. during its last couple of years at the Kingsway. However, I left Dundee 21yrs ago when I moved to Norfolk. Like Alan (Hi Alan !) I have just 2 years left too. I also have the pleasure of taking this (picture 21190) around as one of the diminishing band of brigade "Stick-shift" LGV drivers (researching it's history led me to this photo site). My personal interest can be seen in the corner of this picture 25857. I will send you an e-mail to work out if I might have known your dad.
