Fire Engines Photos

When this station was made, was there really 8 appliances to fill all those bays? Must have looked quite impressive!

David, I'm looking forward to Yelp Bullhorn getting back to us too, sure to be photos of an interesting line up, , , , Sadly, this infrastructure we once all knew, is a long gone thing of the past....

Sorry to disapoint, but I don't have a photo of Hanley's line-up from any era. Hanley, though, have a history of housing general purpose lorries, exhibition units and display units, as well as reserve appliances. So maybe they filled this cavernous appliance room with those vehicles. The fire service workshops are also located at Hanley. So perhaps vehicles awaiting work were/are also stored here.

Just dropped-in at Hanley. The operational side of the station uses the three bays on the right; they are seperate from the rest of the appliance room which is given over to workshops.

No, Big6hitter, although Hanley is classed as Stoke-on-Trent's city centre, the only aerial based in Stoke can be found at Longton: It is a Scania ALP; see pictures 7733, 10725 or 10726 for details. North Staffordshire used to have two aerials up until about 5 years ago: a Dennis F127 TL at Hanley and a Dennis F127/SS220 HP at Leek which later moved to Longton.

Hanley was the HQ and control for the City of Stoke On Trent Fire Brigade pre 1974. I remember three pumps, a TL,RT and a white Bedford flat bed truck with blue lights in the bays.

In 1980 Hanley was the North Divisional HQ and had a WrL+WrT+TL and SiU all Wholetime manned. The WrT was the busiest pump in the brigade, but is now retained?? The appliance bay was 4 bays. The other 4 bays housed the driving school appliances, reserves and the White General Purpose Bedford TK. these 4 bays only became workshops when the south division workshops closed around 8years ago.

Since the arrival of their TRV (a light fire appliance), Hanley's Water Tender is indeed RDS manned. Today the TRV copes with the majority of the incidents that used to be assigned to the Water Tender. The first-away (Rescue Ladder) is still wholetime though.

Hanley Fire Station when it opened was one of the most up to date in the country, with all the bays displaying an array of modern appliances.Sorry to see it go,(the good old days),

Hanley Fire Station Officially closed yesterday and will be demolished next week. The 2 Pumps and DLU are now housed in the temporary Fire station erected in the yard. The TRV is to be parked outside for the time being.
