With its tilting canopy crew cab this looks a bit like its American "big brother", the C series.
Both were designed by many of the same truck engineering team, with the D series coming along in 1966, nine years after the tilt cab C.
Canopy cabs were quite popular with fire services in both Australia and New Zealand for many years, presumably because the sunny climate favored this simpler approach to crew accommodations...
