Fire Engines Photos

I remember going with my mum the day acomb fire station opened and this appliance, with it's twin, paj725r were based there, 1 full time pump, the other a retained machine.
I always remember seeing these appliances in summer time with the crew cab doors opened running around, can't do that with a modern appliance can you?
Do you have any idea where any of these appliances ended up at all? i would love to see them again!

Hi John. Yes your right Acomb ran the 2 PAJ Reg Bedfords for a number of years, they used to change them over from time to time to keep the milages similar, but one was always faster than the other but can't remember which it was. A garage near to Hornsea had a few parked in a yard at the rear for a number of years after they had been sold out of service, not sure if they are still there.

thanks for that Paul, do i remember correctly if a similar machine to one of these was converted to an e.t? i seem to remember seeing it at the rear yard in york, i just recall thinking how odd it looked, but still looking good at the same time.

John. Yes North Yorkshire workshops did convert a pump to a reserve ET. I have a photo so I will upload it later.One of the Dennis ET's ( well 2 actually )was written off in a RTA so they made this appliance to cover.

Wonderful appliances. Suffolk operated a whole fleet of these machines through the 60's right up until the last appliances were sold off towards the late ninties. The Suffolk machines had a single roof mounted blue beacon at the front and an elevated one at the rear with two round repeaters on the front grill. It would be nice if anyone had any photos of the old suffolk appliances.
