I joined the CFA in 1978 and the first truck I ever turned out on was one of these Austins. Ours was registered number HUF 025 and was built in 1963. It had a 4 speed gear box, no synchromesh, a single red light and ours actually had a bell that needed to be switched on and off by the passenger en route to the call, until the vehicle was modernised in about 1980. We had the truck in service until about 1982. The pump was a petrol driven gaam single stage pump with about 250 GPM capacity (I think. I carried a 2000 litre water tank(400 gallons?), and that was about it. She weighed about 7 tonnes all up and was embarrasingly slow. Put out some big fires though!

i have just bought one of these trucks , it has an austin straight 6 engine.and is identical to the one in the picture, reg from 1963, has done 28, 000miles. and has always been garaged. starts 1st time.

An uprated, slightly updated version of the engine in the Austin Home Office machines built during the war. 4l instead of 3.5l.

Hi, our brigade still has a 1966 Austin fire truck. Still registered. We are replacing it soon. Any ideas on the price we should sell it for. The money goes towards the purchase of next truck.
