Montreal Fire department 5th alarm
Montreal Fire Department apparatus at a 5th Alarm 3 story appartment building fully involved in fire during one of Canada's worst winters in history.The building was well involved in fire when 1st arriving engine and ladder companies arrived.Some 25 pieces of equipment and 150 firefighters were in attendence,but due to the severe winter weather conditions,water problems, and temperatures dropping around - 40*F,the building was totally lost in this dramatic 5th Alarm blaze.

It is very hard on the crews, too, when it is twenty or more degrees below freezing - and there may be a strong wind blowing too. I have been told it takes four alarms just to get the manpower to handle what would otherwise be a normal "all hands" fire, because ten minutes is all anyone can spend out of doors in these conditions.
Add the delays getting apparatus there on snowy and icy streets with snowed-in parked vehicles, and these weather conditions are a firefighter's nightmare!
If you can imagine it, the coldest weather here has been as low as -27F (or -33C). No kidding...
