Another picture of this classic Dennis. The original petrol engine was replaced by a Perkins diesel engine in the late '50's.(Yelp, you know we all only jest on this site and nothing is taken seriously!).

What a difference from the square tool box with four wheels we see around these days.Very nice picture, and a very nice chassis Dennis.Must be 60+years, I wonder how many square boxes of today will be around in 60+years time?.

Dear Doctor, by chance would you have a picture of the appliance and escape to the nearside of this apparatus, , Query! Is that a foam making branch atop and mounted this beautiful machine from Manchester....?!

Pavel, the fire engine hiding behind the Manchester machine is my Dennis Light 4. There is already a picture (Number 1612) of it on this site. The Manchester machine does carry its foam branch up amongst the suction, although the usual position on most pre-war machines was in one of the long bottom lockers. To go with the branch of course there is usally a brass 'napsack' tank holding the foam compound. On my Light Four this tank is carried on the back pump step on the offside. In picture 1612 you can just see it through the escape wheel.

Best Christmas wishes, from Barry in a very cold Northumberland, England.

Just a point of order Barry........I think you will find that this machine was fitted with a Gardiner engine not a Perki....its our (Cheshires) F1 has the Perkins

This Dennis is perhaps THE classic prewar British fire engine! It really is just perfect, but to my eyes, the city crest and gold coach lining make all the difference.

I am not too keen on the plastic zip ties, but I suppose they are there for a reason!
