New York City Fire Department EMS Ford F350
The Emergency Medical Service in New York City is the largest in the World.Every day the members of the New York City Fire Department Bureau of EMS (F.D.N.Y.-EMS) respond to around 3,500 (alarms) calls for help every day.Thats about,1.3 million per year.Although the EMS is controlled and dispatched by the Fire Dept,approximately one third of the Emergency 911 ambulances in the system are provided by the actual hospitals in New York City.NYC-EMS was origanally operated by the city's Health and Hospitals Corperation,and not part of the Fire Department,but as of March 17th,1996,the NYC-EMS was administratively taken over by the F.D.N.Y.The F.D.N.Y-EMS employees/workers are not firefighters,they are uniformed emergency medical service employees.Walk around anywhere in New York City,especially Manhattan and you'll see an Ambulance just sitting on a corner,a main street,just anywhere waiting for that next call because this is common in New York City,the city that never sleeps.Ambulances have designated areas to cover on the streets (Own Patch/Area) of the city and thats why you see so many of them.They do not respond from firehouses,they are always out on the streets.The photo shows a Ford F350 Ambulance (On the street) waiting for that next call on Broadway in New York City.....Pete Matten.

Sorry for delay in responding to your question, I didn't get an E.Mail and I've only just spotted it on the comments.I've done a little research, but at this time I can't really find any details on how many ambulances(buses)are available on a day-to-day basis for front line duties, only some details of the hundreds
of ambulances that have been purchased in recent years.

Nutorious Silicon....I've sent an E.Mail to someone who might have the answer to your question in New York, which is something I cannot answer at the moment although I've searched many sites for the answer...but come up with nothing.
