Brazilian firefighters use a lot of double cab 4X4 pickups and SUVs, including various Japanese, Korean and US brands.

Crewed by two to four firefighters, they are used as first responder light pumps, brush units, portable pump carriers, light rescue tenders, special purpose trailer towing units and personnel carriers.

In cities like Sao Paulo, one or two are typically stationed along with a pair of full size pumpers, a heavy rescue, an aerial ladder or quint, a high capacity tanker and two or three ambulances as well as a variety of special purpose trailers.

One interesting SOP is that these run ahead of the larger trucks and block cross traffic at intersections when they encounter red traffic lights. Once the bigger units are through, they race past them to tackle the next red light, and so on...

Most fire services are volunteer, but in large towns and cities the full time fire service is a branch of the military police.

Larger appliances are mainly locally built Scania, Ford Cargo or VW - which are really MAN with a VW badge - as well as a few imported Volvo, Iveco and Mercedes units. There are also quite a number of US pumpers and aerials, with a seeming preference for Pierce.
