The ladder came off an F28? from Heswall on the Wirral. Its running mate was Thornycroft A type 4X4 .

It’s a lot of ladder for a small appliance. Reminds me of some French first aid pumpers with lightweight 15 metre extension ladders. They are longer than the truck which is carrying them! The addition of the hook ladder also reminds me that practically every pumper in France still carries one or more hook ladders, except of course for brush trucks. Invented in France in the 1820s, they are still used quite often, especially in older built up areas where access for conventional extension ladders is compromised.

As well as these ladders, the Miles light alloy bodied Dennis had the ability to carry a full 400 gallons (1800 litres) of water, which the earlier wood framed Dennis F8s could not. It maxed out at 350, which severely compromised locker space, but more usually had either a 200 or optional 300 tank.
