I am not surprised this lasted 35 years. Saurer built what can only be described as the Rolls Royce of trucks, and I recall that our DAB bus factory in Denmark installed Saurer engines in some of the first articulated city buses to be sold in Europe in the seventies. They were of course very expensive but utterly reliable and lasted forever. These engines were famously engineered for - and used for decades by - the Swiss post office. Their custom designed buses were often the only vehicles to be out and about in the snow covered mountain passes in that country. Not places to have engine problems!
