With a trailing combined drive and steering axle, which is a relatively new idea. In former times it had to be a choice of either a fixed axle 6X4 (or 6X6) or 6X2 if the buyer wanted a steering trailing axle. Now we can get both excellent traction and improved maneuverability in one package! Some ultra large four and five axle rigs, such as airport crash tenders, big industrial pumpers and tankers - as well as extra height ladders and platform trucks - have multiple driven steering axles, both to spread around the traction delivery and to try to achieve a manageable level of maneuverability.
