Fire Engines Photos

When I lived in Britain up to 1978 water tankers were practically unheard of in city and county fire brigades, and in fact the only one I ever came across was a Bedford R series 4X4 in Cambridge. They now seem to be cropping up quite frequently. Can anyone explain why this trend is occurring?
