Opened up lockers from those far off days when fire pumpers were only equipped to fight fires, and carried nothing much else except hoses, ladders and firefighting tools.
The ( not original ) red hoses are on a portable reel, and this was used for initial attack on small fires, a substitute for the 19 or 23 mm first aid hose reel used in many other countries. This so called C hose was either 45 or 52 mm, and was used with a branch pipe with a potential flow of up to 400 LPM.
Locating the outlets at the sides under the lockers was the norm, and is still standard practice in Germany. It is meant to speed up connections and leave the rear of the vehicle clear for removing ladders and other items stored in roof coffins.
