This town of just under 10,000 citizens is, as typically all over Germany, protected by an all volunteer unpaid fire company. With 97 active operational responders on call, the company attended 39 incidents in 2025. In addition to this rescue pumper, the volunteers operate two more 3000 LPM pumpers. The vehicle fleet also includes an older PP squad transporter with a water tank, three utility squads, a hose trailer, a boat trailer and a trailer pump too.

I should add that very few towns in Germany with populations under around 80,000 employ any paid firefighters. Response to incidents is exclusively the domain of unpaid all volunteer fire companies, which are numerous and are located in different sections of these larger municipalities to ensure rapid response times. A similar pattern exists in many areas of the US too. For example, Nassau County on Long Island - right next to New York City - has a dense urban population of 1.4 million but no paid operational firefighters. Instead, the county is protected by no less than 190 all volunteer fire companies. One fire station for every 7,400 citizens!
