By this date this faithful and widely popular Commer chassis was getting a bit long in the tooth, soon to be in the shadows of the much more advanced Bedford TK introduced in 1961 and the Ford D series, which turned up in 1966. Nevertheless hundreds of these did a decade or more of sterling service from 1950 onwards, in city, borough and above all county fire brigades. They could perhaps be described as the first widely adopted modern post war fire appliances, outnumbering the Dennis and Merryweather offerings from the same period, and a more modern design than the popular but semi forward control Bedford S series, which became most famous in its AFS green goddess manifestation.
