From the sixties onwards German fire services enthusiastically embraced the use of dry powder fire extinguishing media. This was I believe primarily intended to tackle electrical fires, among other things. Although dedicated dry powder units like this example were not all that common, dry powder installations on pumpers were very common. It seems these media were not used all that often, as dry powder tenders and powder equipped pumpers were rarely replaced by new units with this feature when the time came for them to be retired.

Dry powder is still a regular feature of airfield crash tenders, but seems to have lost its popularity in other applications..

Dry powder was very popular in Germany in the sixties and seventies, although it was more commonly installed on water tenders rather than having a dedicated powder tender like this example. Despite its erstwhile popularity it seems trucks with powder installed were generally not replaced by new units with them and their use has mostly died out, apart from hand extinguishers and of course airfield crash tenders.
