This is one of a very large number of Commer Miles PEs and WTs which were bought by Gloucestershire in the fifties and early sixties. They were all eventually replaced by Ford D series with HCB bodywork starting in 1966, and eleven of these (with decidedly ugly bodies) were the first D series sold to fire brigades in the UK. Together with Lancashire the county became the largest operator of Fords among over thirty other brigades in England as well as many others in ten export markets, not to mention numerous industrial brigades.
When the D series was replaced by the Cargo, it was decided to discontinue special purpose fire appliance chassis due to low volumes, but a few were still sold to fire brigades, especially in Brazil and Turkey as well as a handful in the UK.
