This was an early post war Magirus design, with its unusual round nose bonnet, possible because the engine was air cooled and so there was no radiator. Unlike all its competitors, the styling was not compromised by the need to have a big rectangular radiator in front. These had another less obvious but unusual feature, which was that the pump was mid mounted to reduce the drive shaft length and improve weight distribution, even though the controls and plumbing were at the rear. It was accessed by removing the rear crew seat, if necessary. This design was not continued on later series, however, and the pump was then mounted at the rear like everybody else - except of course on units carrying a PP, when it was front mounted.
