Although still famous as a manufacturer of heavy cranes, Faun was a builder of both commercial and military trucks in the fifties and sixties. This eight ton gross weight model was not a roaring success, and the small number quoted by J-P which were built as fire pumpers was dwarfed by Mercedes, Opel and even Hanomag-Henschel. This example looks like it may be a 4X4, which would make it a very rare survivor indeed. The LF 8 was by far the most common fire pumper in its day, as it was the standard appliance in most of Germany’s 23, 000 volunteer fire companies. It had an 800 LPM pump, a nine seat crew cab and no water tank.
