The BSPP is of course a brigade of the engineers branch of the French army, just as the BMPM in Marseilles is a battalion of the French marine corps. (All the other fire services in France are civilians - and are organized by geography into departments.) Even so, it seems a little weird for the honor guard accompanying the standard to be carrying automatic assault rifles, as these have no utility at all when it comes to firefighting.
