Alfred Miles light alloy bodywork, which was at the time a very advanced approach, compared to the more common ash framed alloy panels used by other fire appliance builders. These inevitably experienced frame rot as they aged. The only drawback to this particular design was that it removed the front door access for the driver and crew leader. In the days before BA sets were routinely stored in the cab, this was probably not a major issue, and several brigades bought a large number of Miles appliances on Bedford, Commer, Dodge and even Dennis F8 chassis without front cab doors. Some did add front doors to their requirements, but it seems this was rather uncommon.
