The Econic was originally designed for garbage trucks (bin lorries) with front loaders, which was why the series came with a low profile cab and a set back engine in the first place. It has since proved to be very popular for fire service aerial applications where a low cab is required, and the design concept has been copied by both Iveco and more recently by Scania. It also turns up with rescue and occasionally pumper bodywork, but these tend to be mainly when ultra mobility is required, as the chassis is available with rear axle steering. This both reduces the vehicle turning circle dramatically, but can also be switched over to allow it to creep along diagonally if needed !
