University fire brigades are quite common in some countries including examples I have witnessed in both Germany and the US. Some are very well equipped and staffed, in recognition of the fact that they often protect extensive multiple residential structures, as well as laboratories, large lecture auditoriums and sometimes quite impressive chapels which are on a scale not much different than a cathedral. On the other hand they are essentially unheard of in many countries.
