These big white “ lollipops” were a feature of most German fire trucks until forward control designs became the norm, which was not really until the seventies.

Interesting to see this 1930s vintage heavy pumper from Germany, designed for wartime service under severe operational conditions, sitting right next to a Green Goddess - also designed as a wartime civil defense heavy pumper in the 1950s, but for the UK, and fortunately for a war which never came. Twenty years of progress!
