There are quite a lot of Land Rovers in service with fire brigades in France, as there is really no equivalent type of 4X4 utility made locally, and the obvious alternative, the Mercedes-Steyr G Wagen is much more expensive. As the new Land Rover is now more of a SUV type, it remains to be seen whether French fire services will still buy them. It seems Japanese 4X4 pickups like the Toyota and Mitsubishi may be the more favored replacements. These are already finding favor in some other European fire services.
Since 2024 Ineos Grenadier have appeared in some French Regional Fire services. Ineos are manufactured in France under the Ineos Automotive Ltd UK Group.
Yes, I guess it is the closest thing to the old series Land Rover you could find now. It even looks almost identical! The BMW engine and eight speed automatic transmissions are certainly a vast improvement. Let’s hope the quality is there, as the old Landies were not all that highly favored when it came to reliability. I imagine it is quite a bit pricier than the Land Rover, but probably still a lot less than a G Wagen!
