Fire Engines Photos

I believe this may have been stationed at Hungerford. It was adapted from a standard NFS Austin Heavy Unit. The original 700 GPM pump with its own engine appears to have been removed and replaced by a PTO powered Dennis No 2 500 GPM pump, possibly from a former NFS trailer. Removing the original pump has made room for a water tank and first aid hose reel, which were of course not part of the original specification. It also looks as if rather uncomfortable and primitive seating for some of the crew was provided on top of the original side lockers. While many heavy units were used for a decade or more by fire brigades after WWII, most were relatively unmodified except for being repainted red. This example seems to have been quite thoughtfully updated for regular civilian use, and U wonder if anyone knows who did this work?
